Boil the split-peas in one litre (about 4 cupfuls) of water together with the whole onion and a pinch of salt. |

When it has thickened and absorbed most of the liquid, leave to cool. |

Put in the blender and work to a smooth paste.

Prepare the ingredients for the ‘marriage’.
Heat the oil in a frying plan and fry the onions and tomato strips. Season with salt, and while hot pour over the split-pea porridge.

An excellent dish. Eat together with salted sardines.
